F.I.R.M Fam

F.I.R.M Fam= First Inter-Racially Mixed Family

The F.I.R.M. Family (or also known as the Royal Family) is one of the strongest nationally known families in the Greek system. In a joined cause to continue the growth of unity among brothers and sisters in different organizations, and to strive for very similar virtues the members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., our sisters Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, and our cousins Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc and  Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. formed the F.I.R.M. Family. This family stays true to its name.

Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta were both
founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1914 and 1920
respectively. Zeta Phi Beta became the first national sorority to be organized
as a sister organization to a fraternity, and today the two remain the
ONLY constitutionally bound "sister-brother"
affiliation.

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc, is a social fraternity that was founded on
April 4,1986 at the University of Iowa. It is based on cultural understanding
and wisdom. Most noteworthy is that 18 men of whom 16 were of Latin American or
Hispanic origin/descent founded Sigma Lambda Beta. The Eighteen Founding Fathers
established Sigma Lambda Beta with the following principles in mind:

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc, was commenced by collegiate women who recognized the need
to form an organization that provided empowerment to women of all cultural
backgrounds. Her humble beginnings were built at the University of Iowa, Iowa
City, Iowa where their vision was to create a network of academic and social
support for Latina women. Under the guidance of Esther Materon Arum and Mary
Peterson, the vision came to fruition on April 9th, 1990, as the University of
Iowa Pan-Hellenic Council officially recognized the organization as a
sorority.
